60% of First Nation children on reserve live in poverty, institute says

Indigenous children in Canada are more than twice as likely to live in poverty than non-Aboriginal kids, according to new findings released Tuesday by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives.

Three years ago, Devon Fiddler quit her job to pursue a career in fashion.

"It all stemmed from me wanting to empower Indigenous women and girls," Fiddler said. 

She had no design experience and knew little about the industry, but it was something she had always dreamed of.

Canada holds emergency debate over aboriginal suicide 'tragedy'

OTTAWA/WINNIPEG, Manitoba (Reuters) - Canadian legislators told an emergency parliamentary session on Tuesday night that a rash of suicide attempts by aboriginal teenagers in a remote, poverty-stricken community was "completely unacceptable" and vowed steps to keep it from happening again. Read More

Quebec promises action after new allegations of abuse against aboriginal women

Some women say complaints they filed against police were never heard!

Quebec Public Security Minister Martin Coiteux has vowed the government will take action following another report by Radio-Canada's investigative program, Enquête, where aboriginal women across Quebec reported suffering physical and sexual abuse at the hands of provincial police. Read More
